Upcoming Volunteer Project:

In September 2011, with the theme “Traditional Japanese industry affected by the East Earthquake”, we organized a volunteer project, sending UK students to work at Niizawa Sake Brewing Co. Ltd., as well as touring Iwate and Miyagi, visiting affected sake breweries. A documentary video of the project was shown at a charity event at the Embassy of Japan in the UK on September 20^th; and our activities were widely reported, with articles in Asahi Shinbun and The Japan Times.
Action for Japan UK is planning a new volunteering project, to take place this September. The theme of this year’s project is “The assistance of young people in the reconstruction of affected areas: lessons learned from the Great East Japan Earthquake”. Our aim is to share the knowledge of volunteering activities in order to implement lasting long term plans for Japanese students and locals to contribute to the revitalisation of Tohoku. We shall predominantly be working in the city of Rikuzentakata.

We will have the opportunity to directly help with the clear-up operations, and an excellent forum to exchange ideas, hoping to impact the public, educational, and community levels.  If you have previous experience in volunteering, or want to show your support and solidarity with the Japanese people, this will be a deeply rewarding project to be involved with.

２０１２年９月　陸前高田ボランティアプロジェクト

２０１１年９月、「震災により被害を受けた日本の伝統産業」というテーマの下、私達はイギリスの学生を宮城県の新澤醸造店に派遣し、ボランティアをさせるという企画を実行しました。この企画は、朝日新聞やジャパンタイムズなど、多くのメディアの注目を浴びることができ、また、このプロジェクトのドキュメンタリー映像が、９月２０日行われた在英日本国大使館のチャリティイベントにて流されました。

そして、Action for Japan UKは、今年９月に新たなボランティアプロジェクトを企画しています。今年はテーマを「若者の地域復興支援：３．１１からの学び」とし、学生や地元の若い方々が、東北の復興により長期的に取り組むことができるよう、イギリスにおけるボランティア活動に関する経験や知恵を共有することを目的としています。

今回は、場所を岩手県陸前高田市に移し、ボランティアセンター指導の下がれき撤去作業を行ったり、仮設住宅にてカフェイベントを開催する予定です。また東京では、復興支援活動を長期的に行っている大学生団体とディスカッションを行う予定です。

More than half a year has passed since our volunteers worked at Mr Niizawa’s sake brewery. Whilst I was in Sendai to organize this year’s volunteer trip, Mr Niizawa kindly came to meet me from Furukawa.

We talked about the memorable days at the Niizawa brewery while eating Kaisendon (seafood ball), and then he took me to see his new sake brewery.
The last time we were here, sake was still being made at the old brewery, and the new brewery was not operational. The old brewery was judged as ‘completely destroyed’ as a result of earthquake damage; and so all the equipment and machines had to be moved to the new brewery in order to start making sake there. Now the entirety of the new brewery, from the Koji room to the labeling area, is completely equipped with the machines from the old brewery. Although still new, it’s full of the memorable sake smell, which reminded me of the various memories I had with the other members last year.

With regards to the old brewery, the initial plan was to preserve some parts as a sake shop, however as the maintenance costs would be too high, Mr. Niizawa decided to demolish it all. Although I did not have the chance to see the area where the old brewery was, I saw a photo, which showed how it was demolished — the place is completely changed, and there was nothing there. I feel sad that the place we had so many good memories at no longer exists in the world.

However, Mr. Niizawa, who should have had a more complicated feeling toward the demolishment of the old brewery, was full with energy to overcome the disaster and make better sake in his new home.

Mr. Niizawa, who still continues to make traditional sake at the new place, thank you so much for letting us participate in the last chance of making sake at that old brewery.

お世話になった新澤醸造店のアップデート

酒蔵ボランティアに私達が行ってから早半年が経ちました。今年度のボランティア企画の打ち合わせのため先日、仙台に行ったところ、杜氏の新澤さんがわざわざ古川から仙台までやってきてくれることになりました。ガイドブックには載っていない、隠れ家的な海鮮丼のお店に連れて行ってもらい、思い出話に花を咲かせたあと、新しい酒蔵を見せてもらうことになりました。半年前はまだ全壊判定を受けた古い酒蔵でお酒を作っていため、移転予定の新しい蔵は空っぽでしたが、今では麹室からラベル張りの作業場まで完全に整備されていました。まだまだ新しい酒蔵ですが、部屋には懐かしいお酒の香りがして、昨年お世話になった時の様々な思い出が蘇ってきました。

私たちが働いた古い酒蔵は、もともとは、お酒の販売所として一部を残される予定でしたが、維持費がかなりかかるということで、新澤さんは酒蔵全てを取り壊すことを決意されました。今回、古い酒蔵に行くことは叶いませんでしたが、写真で拝見したところ、本当に跡形もない更地になっていました。あの思い出に残る大切な一週間を過ごした場所が、もうこの世にはないということに、なんとも言えない寂しさを覚えました。

しかし、きっともっと複雑な思いを抱えている新澤さんが、震災を乗り越え、新しい場所で、更にもっと良いお酒を作ろうというエネルギーに満ち溢れるのを拝見し、素直に、今後も応援し続けようと思いました。

[Report] Sake Volunteering Project 2011

The Great East Japan Earthquake saw 93 out of the 114 breweries in Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures suffer great damage, with nine facilities being completely destroyed. The purpose of our Sake Volunteer Project was to witness the affected areas first-hand, lending what support we could to the breweries, and to highlight the situation in the region.

So it was that eighteen volunteers arrived in Sanbongi, Osaki City, Miyagi in September 2011, welcomed by Mr. Iwao Niizawa, President of Niizawa Jozoten. We were able to work with the experienced sake masters across all stages of sake production:  from rice steaming, to stirring the main mash, to making koji, to pressing, bottling and labelling.

Mr. Niizawa, a fifth-generation brewer, became the youngest brewer in Miyagi Prefecture in 2000 when he took over his family’s business at the age of 25. Since then, with his flagship brands Hakurakusei and Ataganomatsu, his brewery had gone from strength to strength.
The earthquake struck at a time of final preparations in the sake production season; over 40,000 bottles of Hakurakusei were destroyed. Worse still, the earthquake had caused devastating irreparable damage to the site’s foundations.  They had collapsed, and externally cracks covered the walls and the buildings leaned. City officials had said the site, first opened in 1873, was beyond repair.

Yet, Mr. Niizawa did not give up. He would make one last output from his devastated brewery. The fact that we were able to experience this final sake production on the historic site, before it was demolished, is at once both humbling and a great honour.

Despite our inexperience, our wealth of numbers meant the brewery was always bustling, even if we weren’t as efficient as the masters. Mr Niizawa at the time was preparing to move to a newly acquired site. “We are now preparing for the relocation and also brewing sake at the same time. At such a busy time, the volunteers helped a lot and I greatly appreciate their work”.

A video of our experience was shown at a charity event at the Embassy of Japan in the UK, and we hope that this provided some detailed insight into our project, and the situation in Miyagi. Mr Niizawa was exceptionally generous to us, we give him and his staff our deepest thanks for welcoming us so fully, and wish them the very best in the future.

［レポート］　酒蔵ボランティアプロジェクト２０１１

東日本大震災により、宮城、岩手、福島にある１１４の酒蔵のうち９３の蔵が被害を受け、９つの蔵が全壊判定を受けました。被害地域に直に赴き状況を把握した上で、私達に可能な支援を提供し、その地域の状況を外部に伝えるという目的で、そのような状況の下、被災した酒蔵にボランティアに行く企画を実行しました。

１８人のボランティアが、２０１１年９月に宮城県大崎三本木に到着し、新澤醸造店の杜氏である新澤巌夫さんが歓迎して下さいました。その後、私たちは経験豊かなと蔵人の方々と共に、酒造りの全行程（米さましから、麹造り、ボトリングからラベル貼りまで）に携わることができました。

５代目の杜氏である新澤さんは、２０００年に２５歳で酒蔵を継ぎ、宮城県で最も若い杜氏となりました。その後、彼は「伯楽星」と「愛宕の松」という有名ブランド酒を作り、蔵の売り上げを伸ばして、経営を立て直しました。

地震は、ちょうど酒造りシーズンの最終段階の時に襲いかかり、できあがっていた４万本もの「伯楽星」のボトルが割れてしまいました。さらにボトルだけではなく、地震により蔵の土台部分までもが破壊され、蔵自体が相当の被害を受けました。結局、市は１８７３年に建てられたこの歴史ある蔵を、「立て直し不可能」と判定しました。

しかし、新澤さんは諦めませんでした。この被害を受けた蔵で、最後にもう一度酒を作ろうと決意されたのです。私たちが、この歴史ある蔵が解体される前の最後の酒造りに参加できたことは大変光栄でした。

私たちには酒造りの経験がないため、蔵人の方々に比べると仕事の効率も悪く、人数が多かったので、酒蔵はいつも大変騒がしかったと思います。しかし、新澤さんは私達がボランティアをしている時、新しい酒蔵に移転するための準備をされていたため、「移転準備と酒造りを両方同時にやっている忙しい時に、ボランティアに来てくれて助かるし、感謝しています」と優しく声をかけて下さいました。

私たちの経験は、ドキュメンタリー映像となり、在英日本国大使館のチャリティイベントで流されました。この場を借り、改めて新澤さんと酒蔵の皆さんに感謝申し上げると共に、今後のご活躍とご健勝をお祈りいたします。

Attention all Japan enthusiasts!

September 2011 Sake Volunteering Project

This September members of  Action For Japan UK  and the Japan Affairs Forum will be travelling to Miyagi and Iwate prefectures in Japan to work at the famous Nizawa Jozoten and Suisen sake breweries! What’s more, we are looking for people to join us!
For two weeks students will work alongside the experts, helping brew delicious rice wine, whilst aiding communities affected by the recent Tohoku earthquake. Although local infrastructure has been repaired the economic costs of the tsunami and earthquake continue to make life difficult for locals. Volunteers will provide invaluable relief through both cultural exchange and vol unteer work itself.

The trip promises to be both a fun and rewarding experience and an outstanding chance to show your solidarity with the Japanese people. Furthermore, after the two weeks of work volunteers will have the chance to explore other areas of Japan with the help our Japanese student companions who will be volunteering alongside us, providing language and cultural assistance to those who have come to Japan for the first time. On the weekends we will be holding day trips, excursions to Japanese hot springs and visits to local schools.

The trip will be held from the 11^th to 25^th September, with an optional week afterwards. Volunteers will have to cover personal costs though we have secured cheap (yet comfortable) accommodation and will be able to advise on insurance and flight options. Moreover, there is chance that we will be able to subsides certain costs at a later date, hopefully through corporate sponsorship.

日本好きな皆様へ！

Action For Japan UK、Japan Affairs Forumでは、今年2011年9月、宮城県大崎市にある新澤醸造へのボランティアを計画しています。

2週間に渡って、酒造り職人のもとこだわりの日本酒造りをお手伝いするともに、東北大震災の被災地ボランティア活動も行います。復興に向けて、インフラの修復が始まっているものの、震災による経済的な打撃は大きく、被災地の生活はまだまだ支援が必要な状況です。ボランティア作業を行い、日本の方との文化交流を行いながら、震災支援の一助となればと考えています。また、週末には日帰りで温泉や地元の学校を訪れる予定です。このボランティアプロジェクトでは、共に楽しみながら、かけがえのない貴重な経験を得ることでしょう。なお、2週間のボランティア活動の後、オプショナルで被災地以外の地域も訪れる予定です。日本を初めて訪れる方も、日本人学生によるサポートがありますので、言語・文化の違いについてはご心配なく。

ボランティアプロジェクトの日程は9月11日～25日（その後はオプショナル）。宿泊場所については、主催者にて手頃な（かつ快適な）宿を手配しますが、費用はボランティア各自で負担いただくことになります。保険や航空券について主催者よりアドバイスすることも可能です。なお、助成金を現在検討していますので、うまくいけば企業等のスポンサー協力により費用の一部を負担してもらえる可能性があります。

Safety Information

Many parts of Japan, including popular holiday destinations such as Tokyo, Kyoto, Kamakura and Hakone are outside the area affected by the earthquake and tsunami and received no disruption to infrastructure. Everything in these areas continues to operate as normal. The British Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the US State Department have both announced that it is safe to visit all parts of Japan, except the areas north east of Japan most directly affected by the 11 March earthquake and tsunami.

IOE（ロンドン大学教育研究所）では、日本人学生による募金活動を行いました。

＜Activity at IOE／IOEでの支援活動＞
Fund raising on campus／募金活動

In the Institute of Education, University of London, we organised a fundraising activity from 28th to 30th of March. Although it was during Easter break, many people dropped in and donated with warm words of encouragement. The donation box was also placed in the reception of the student hall; as a result, total amount of donations was 445.51 GBP. This money was sent to JERF and is to be donated to Japan Red Cross. Japanese students involved in this activity were moved by the warm messages given by many people, regardless of their nationality. We would like to send our appreciation to those who supported this activity, especially to the Student Union and the John Adams hall.

ロンドン大学教育研究所では、3月28日から30日までの3日間、キャンパス内で募金活動を行いました。イースター休暇中ではありましたが、多くの方が足をとめ、募金とともに暖かな言葉をかけてくださいました。同じく3月下旬には学生寮にも募金箱が置かれ、合計で445.51ポンドが集まりました。この寄付金はJERFに全額送付し、最終的に日本赤十字に寄付されます。国籍を問わず寄せられる多くの方からの暖かな気持ちを感じ、活動した学生自身とても励まされました。募金活動に協力してくださった方々にこの場を借りてお礼申し上げます。

In London, there were 9 of us who have been taking some initiatives in each group for the Tohoku Earthquake or thinking about it, including members from Action for Japan UK. People from Switzerland and Japan also joined to the skype call. It was encouraging us that not only Japanese but also English student, who has planned a volunteer project in Tohoku, participated in the dialogue. One speaker connected from Ethiopia because of his business and others from Tokyo  participated in the skype session, slipping out the social gathering of sinsai.info and.

* Shinsai means ‘disaster of an earthquake’ in Japanese.

Fund-raise for post-disaster projects

Around 2 months has passed since the Tohoku Earthquake happened. In the UK, other emerging news has occupied newspapers in these days more than the Tohoku Earthquake and active fund-raising activities in the first stage have done. Under these circumstances, we were reminded once again how people in affected areas have been seriously striving for post-disaster when Mr. Bamba, one of the founders of bridge for fukushima, told his story.

According to Mr. Kenichi Bamba, there are many organizations which have started their post-disaster projects by their own individual money in Fukushima. That is, they had no other choice but to invest their own fund for recovery activities and they made the decisions. Mr. Bamba, who started the organization called bridge for fukushima since the Tohoku Earthquake happened to send volunteers for post-disaster activities regularly in Hamadori** where earthquake and tsunami hit as well as affected by nuclear plant disaster, invested his own money as well. It costs 400,000 yen (equivalent to about $4,000) for one volunteer unit consisted of 25 volunteers for three days to remove rubble and mud. He have been applying just a few foundations but he was struggling to find fund information as such information was scattered at the moment.

This is exactly the same situation which Mr. Ichikawa pointed out in a Japanese web magazine that one of gaps in post-disaster activities for the Tohoku Earthquake was the difference between haves and have-nots of donation within organizations (The article is only in Japanese). Many organizations have been facing the major issues of fund-raising, which is essential for organizational management.

** “Hamadori” sounds like name of a street in Japanese but it is a traditional regional name for the district of Pacific Ocean side in Fukushima. Fukushima can be divided into three districts; ‘Hamadoori (i.e. Soma, Minami Soma, Iwaki)’, ‘Nakadori(i.e. Fukushima, Koriyama)’and ‘Aizu (i.e. Aizu wakamatsu, Kitakata)’.

Each affected area has each different need. There are lots of things going which haven’t been informed by media
Ms. Yukari Umemoto, who has been working as a member of ‘Cash for Work Japan’ aiming to apply a disaster relief methodology ‘Cash for Work’ in Tohoku to provide temporary paid employment for post-disaster reconstruction to disaster-affected communities, visited Iwate prefecture(Kamaishi, Rikuzentakata, Oofunato) for the research. According to her research, there is wide variety of needs which are different by locations. She added such a need would be identified and responded by meeting with people.

In addition, what we should to know is that there are lots of things going which haven’t been informed by media. Even people in Tokyo cannot know until they visit an affected area. For example, she knew “Paper is the major information tool in most affected areas. There is a computer but only connected to printer. No internet connection.” and “In an affected area, there is an initiative to create restaurants and information media service to around temporary housings” when she visited.

It is difficult to understand the entire situation but we should carefully listen to their voice when we do something for post-disaster activities. Anyway, I felt we needed to clarify what we can really do here in the UK.

Your concern? My concern?
The last speaker, Mr. Hiroyasu Ichikawa, told about “how to make the disaster into my concern”. He supports sinsai.info which aims to solve the issue of information gap within affected individuals and also he promotes to provide opportunities of meeting people who has interest in “post-disaster and social media” as NetSquared Tokyo. Regarding sinsai.info, you can find English information on the website of Ms. Shino Tsuchiya.

It is important for us to make the disaster as our own concern and gain more support as post-disaster activities has just started and will continue. To do that, it should be very effective for each of us to speak out any small things regarding the disaster with our own words like “Today, I participated in an event related to the Tohoku disaster and felt…”. Another thing he pointed out was that there was huge barrier of language in Japan. English information regarding the post-disaster is really limited. Ｉｆ there is not enough information, most people can feel that the post-disaster reconstruction in Tohoku goes well.

The post-disaster reconstruction will be carried out for long period. It would be better to visit affected area but all of us cannot visit and support affected areas directly. As an individual from the abroad for Japan, we can keep in mind to speak out myself regarding the disaster continuously, especially in English so that listeners can regard it as our matter. Let’s start a good spiral of the concern.

5月中旬、ロンドン・海外からの支援活動としてどういう形があるのかを考える上でのインプットにするため、被災地で必要な支援を行っている３名の方に協力いただき、スカイプにて各被災地の状況、ニーズ、活動団体の課題についてお話を伺いました。

ロンドン側には、私たちAction for Japan UKの メンバーの他に、グループ・個人で活動されている方、あるいは何かしら支援したい という共通の思いを持つ9名が集合。日本へのボランティアを計画している英国人学生も参加した他、スイス、日本からも直接話を聞きたいとスカイプ中継しました。スピーカーの皆さんは、仕事でエチオピアから、東京で行われたsinsai.infoシンポジウムの懇親会を抜けての参加と、各活動の最中にスカイプに入っていただきました。

震災支援活動とファンドレイズ
震災から2ヶ月程度経過し、英国メディアでは日本の震災以外のビッグニュースが優先して取り上げられ、ここロンドンでも第一弾の活発な資金集めがひと段落する中、まず衝撃的だったのは、福島で活動団体を立ち上げられた方のお話。bridge for fukushima として活動されている伴場さんのお話。

自己資金で支援活動を始めているNPO団体は福島では多数ある、つまり、活動を進めるにあたって、自ら資金を持ちださずにはいられない状況にあり決断をした方たちがいる、という点です。地震・津波そして原発の被害を受けた浜通り※を中心拠点に、ボランティアを定期的に派遣する活動団体 bridge for fukushimaを立ち上げている伴場さんも、自己資金で支援活動をスタートされています。がれき撤去などに3日程度２５名程度のボランティアを団体で派遣する場合、実質40万ほどがかかるとのこと。「現在いくつかの財団へ申請しているが、申請先の情報が集約されていない状況で今のところ限られた申請先しかない」とのこと。

ウェブメディア「現代ビジネス」にて、市川さんが今回の震災において寄付金が集まっている団体とそうでない団体のギャップを一つに挙げられていますが、まさしくその状況を示しているのでしょう。多くのNPO団体では、組織運営に不可欠なファンドレイズという大きな壁に直面しているのが現状です。

※「浜通り」と聞くと、通りの名称かと思いましたが、調べてみたところ福島県の地域の名前です。福島は立地で３つの地域に分けられ、「浜通り（相 馬、南相馬、いわきなど太平洋側）「中通り（福島、郡山などの内陸）」「会津（会津若松、喜多方など）」と呼ばれるそうです。なるほど、地域固有の呼び方 があるのですね。

ニーズは被災地によって異なり、現場に行かないとわからない事がたくさんある
被災者を復旧・復興事業に雇用して、賃金を支払うことで、被災地の円滑な経済復興と、被災者の自立支援につなげる手法であるキャッシュ・フォー・ワーク（Cash for Work：CFW）を日本へ導入するべく活動しているCash for Work Japanの梅本さんは、岩手県（釜石、陸前高田、大船渡方面）をCFWの調査活動の一環として訪れました。梅本さんのお話によると、ニーズは個別のバラバラしたもので、多岐に渡るといいます。そういったニーズは、人と人とのの出会いによって発見され応えられていくのだろうということでした。

もうひとつ、心に留めておきたいことは、東京にいるスピーカーの方でさえ「被災地に行かないとわからない事がたくさんある」という点。「現地では基本、紙媒体でやりとり」「パソコンはあるけど、プリンターに『しか』つながっていない（つまり、ネットにもつながっておらず、PCがただの回覧板作成機としてしか使われていない）」「ある被災地では、仮設住宅の近くに飲食店や情報メディアサービスを作ろう、 という動きも出ている」といった状況にあるそうです。

海外から現地の状況を十分把握しにくい分、直接的な支援は難しいですが、間接的な支援であっても、何かを始める場合は出来る限り、耳を傾けることが必要だと思います。いずれにせよ、まずは、自分たちができる範囲を整理する必要があることを改めて感じました。

関心を自分に寄せる
最後に、ソーシャルメディアを活用し震災支援を行う市川さんの「自分事として捉える」お話について。市川さんは情報ギャップを埋めるため立ち上げられたsinsai.infoを支援されている他、有志団体「ネットスクエアード東京」にて「復興支援とソーシャルメディア」というテーマで学び・出会い作りを推進されています。sinsai.infoの英語での紹介については槌屋詩野さんのサイトが参考になります。

復興支援はこれからも続いていく中で、より多くの支援を得るためには、それぞれが自分事のように関心をもてることが大切。そのためには「今日は震災●●のイベントに出たんだけど・・・」といった形で、例え小さなことからでも良いので震災に関わることについて、自分が主体となって話すことが重要ということです。もう一つ、日本には言語の壁があるという大きな課題があることを指摘されていました。英語での発信が圧倒的に少ないという点です。情報がないことは、問題がないとも捉えられかねないわけでしょう。

震災復興は長期にわたります。私たち自身も被災地を訪れ直接支援できるに越したことはないですが、金銭的なハードルも高く、全員ができるわけでもありません。海外から支援する一個人として貢献できそうな部分として、聞いた人が以前よりも一つ近い事として捉えられるようになるために、つまり、関心の連鎖のために「（英語など）震災関連について自分から継続的に発信し続けること」を一つ心に留めておきたいと思います。

At the University of Bradford, a set of fund raising events, including two main ones and placing donation boxes, have been organized in cooperation with other university students The events were more popular than expected, at which we introduced Japanese culture such as Japanese foods, calligraphy, Kimono and Koto as well as some other performances like showing a short film that described the devastating effect of the earthquake and tsunami and a raffle. Thanks to the massive audience, we have collected as much as £4,749.34. The University helped us send the donation to the Japanese Red Cross via the British Red Cross. We sincerely appreciate those who helped and cooperated with our activities in an attempt to support Japan to recover from the disaster.

ブラッドフォード大学では、大学内への募金箱の設置、2度のイベントを中心に現地の学生と協力して募金活動を行いました。特に日本料理、書道、着物、琴などの日本文化紹介をはじめ、日本の状況をまとめたフィルムの上映、ラッフルの販売などを行ったイベントでは、想像以上の人に来ていただき、すべての活動を通して合計£4,749.34もの募金を集めることができました。寄付金は大学協力のもと、イギリス赤十字を通して日本赤十字社に全額送られました。さまざまな形で私たちの活動に協力し、日本を支えようとしてくださった方に心から感謝しています。

OUJS(オックスフォード大学ジャパンソサエティ)では、3月15日から21日にかけてイギリス赤十字社の協力のもとオックスフォード市内で街頭募金活動を行いました。

＜Fundraising in Oxford City Centre／オックスフォード市内での活動 ＞

The Oxford University Japan Society (OUJS), in cooperation with the British Red Cross, organised a street collection from the 15th of March to the 21st In Oxford City Centre. Despite it being out of term the 20 or so people who gathered to help contributed whatever time they could, with some people coming out of labs during their lunchbreaks everyday to help for just an hour, and others just passing by on the day and choosing to help us. The collection was memorable to all of us because of the generosity of the people of Oxford, from the people who repeatedly donated every time they passed by to members of the homeless sparing what change they could. In the end we raised £13,582.32, which has been sent to the Japanese Red Cross, via the British Red Cross.

OUJSは、3月15日から21日にかけてイギリス赤十字社の協力のもとオックスフォード市内で街頭募金活動を行いました。休み中だったので参加できた人数は二十人ほどでしたが昼休みにラボから抜け出して活動を手伝ってくれた人や通りがかりに飛び入り参加した人、全員が東北の人々の役に立ちたいと思い頑張りました。毎日欠かさず寄付していただいた方や自らの生活も厳しいのにわずかな生活費を寄付してくれたホームレスの方など多くに人々の思いを被災者の方々に届けることができればと思います。総額は13582.32ポンドにのぼりオックスフォードの人々の思いやりを感じることができました。寄付金はイギリス赤十字社を通して全額日本赤十字社に送られました。
